Welcome to the Box of Digital Delights!  This blog is eBrands voice on the range of web sites, web tools, news feeds, podcasts, vodcasts, rss...you get the picture!  We will be reporting back on the range of digital delights available to help your brand or your business; and we are particularly interested in those that have a direct impact on employer and consumer branding.  Let's get started with the latest hot topic.

Twitter is officially everywhere.  Tweets are in.  Twits rule.  People are defining their twiteristics.  Addicts manage their tweet subscriptions with TweetDeck.  Share owners and day traders indulge their insider tips in stocktwits and chartly, which is one twitter application leveraging information off another twitter application - giving testimony to the rapid evolution and acceptance of the twitter format.

All this has added up to the fact that the ability to write engaging and relevant content posts in 140 characters or less (the twitter post limit) is rapidly becoming an important part of the marketers CV.

Why is Twitter successful?  Countless reasons too many to go into here.  Maybe I will focus on why it excites me.

  1. Twitter is rapid to consume and digest

  2. It's ultimately portable and mobile friendly

  3. You can quickly evaluate the value of what you're subscribing to, and easily dump valueless content painlessly

  4. They buy-in commitment from subscribers is low

  5. The ability to foster community is high

While much is made of the debate of the value of Blogs vs Twitter, like this commentator says, Twitter allows the user to manage the balance between mindless banter and valuable content to their own personal taste.  Twitter will not replace blogging, in the same way that short-form copy will never replace long-form.

So should you be looking at Twitter.  Undoubtedly.  eBrands has its own feed at Twitter called eBrands_tweets - create your profile, follow us and take a look at some of the characters which eBrands follows, and you will see what a diverse community of twitterati there is out there.

Should your business be looking at Twitter?  Absolutely, Twitter marketing is in its infancy in Australia, but the benefits of utilising Twitter and cultivating a following for you supporters are legion.  Get to know Twitter, and I will report back on some of the benefits tomorrow.
